Anokhi museum
A colleague (thanks Jan!) gave me the tip of visiting the Anokhi Museum near the Amber Fort. Anokhi has a chain of stores throughout India featuring beautiful traditional hand block printed fabric, garments, scarves. We stopped into their boutique in Delhi within the upscale Khan Market, so we appreciated learning more about their work, as well as the art of block printing. The museum building is a former estate that Anokhi restored using traditional building techniques, a process that was recognized in a UNESCO award. Inside, the museum provides beautiful examples of block printing processes, designs, and applications. They also offer demonstrations of block print carving and printing that brings the process to life. Ultimately, it's a great homage to a unique Indian attribute that was referenced on one of the text panels--the ability to take a single unsewn piece of cloth and transform it into a variety of unique garments through complex folding techniques.
