A Maze of Twisty Little Passages...

...all different. And thus was our afternoon Adventure (see what I did there? Anyone but Dad?)

Udaipur's City Palace sits atop the highest hill in the vicinity. No surprise there. It has upwards of 600 rooms. Not out of the ordinary. What it does boast is a labyrinthine layout that bears witness to what was possibly India's most deranged cadre of architects and most secretly over-sexed clan of rulers. It works something like this:

Let's say you find yourself in the Maharana's chambers, at the north end of the complex, and let's say you find yourself in the mood for love, which is located to the south. The solution is easy: first go through the hidden door in the secret room behind the toilet, and descend two levels via spiral staircase. Next, cross the ramparts and enter the mirrored hall of infinite faces, in which you'll find a sliding panel opening to a tunnel that will, after 50m with no windows, deposit you in the kitchen. Take the servants' exit, but veer to the left, climb a set of stairs, pass over a balcony, and descend two more flights, making sure you take the right turn at the landing. Exit the door you find there, cross the internal patio, open the door second from the left and enter the Kama Sutra pavilion. Game on!

And that was just for one wife. This place makes the Winchester Mystery House look like a linen closet.

Love that you & Mark still choose to use the "Maze of twisty little passages" line... could a monochrome computer game from the 80's be that memorable?
